A Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) can help you save on taxes when paying for care and planning ahead for future expenses. If you participate in the Wake Health Savings Plan (in or out of area), you can contribute pre-tax earnings in an HSA and/or a Limited Purpose FSA. However, this tool only allows you to model contributions to an HSA.

Unused HSA funds will roll over from year to year. It’s yours to keep and you never lose it, even if you change jobs or retire.

If you participate in the Wake CoPay Plan (in our out of area), you can save pretax earnings in an FSA. If you leave Wake Forest Baptist Health you can elect COBRA to continue your FSA; your unused funds will be forfeited.

I am age 55 or older and qualify for the increased HSA contribution limit.

The IRS limits the amount you can contribute to a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA). The 2024 maximum contribution for the FSA is $3,050, and the limits for the HSA are $4,150 for an individual and $8,300 for a family.

Welcome to the Decision Support Tool. The purpose of this tool is to assist you in choosing a medical plan and understanding the advantages of tax-free accounts by helping you estimate your annual medical expenses.

We respect your privacy. None of the information you use to calculate your out-of-pocket costs is collected or tracked, including your expected annual medical care expenses. When you navigate away from the Decision Support Tool, your information is automatically discarded. You can print your selections and criteria from the Decision Support Tool. Please keep your printouts secure and use caution when printing to shared printers.

By using this tool, you are agreeing that you understand and accept the following:

Estimates are based on national average medical costs. Because costs vary by provider and not all service details are included, actual costs may differ from what is shown in the Decision Support Tool. Actual costs may also vary based on the order in which services are incurred and by the specific family member using a service (if applicable). In the event of any contradiction between the information contained in this tool and the Plan Documents, the Plan Documents shall govern in all cases.

This tool is designed to help you choose the medical plan that is right for you in two easy steps:

Then, you'll be able to see an estimate of what you'll spend annually for the upcoming year under each medical plan option. You can also use the savings account section to consider how much you should contribute on a before-tax basis to cover your expected medical expenses.

Please note that the estimates are based on average healthcare costs.

Because costs can vary by provider and by region, your actual costs may differ from the national averages used by this tool.

Unit costs above represent the average allowed charge for each service. The allowed charge is the amount of submitted charges eligible for payment for all claims according to health plan documents/contracts. Specifically, it is the amount eligible after applying pricing guidelines, but before deducting third party, copayment, coinsurance, or deductible amounts. The allowed charge represents the amount a plan will consider for adjudication for a covered service. The unit costs above include network and non-network services.

In the event of any discrepancy between the information contained in this tool and official plan documents, the latter shall govern in all cases.

Please select the group that applies to you.

A working spouse surcharge will apply if your spouse has access to their own health coverage and you elect to provide their coverage through an Wake Forest Baptist Health plan.

If you have more than five children, consider combining expenses for children to estimate your total family costs.

The Wake Forest Baptist Health service area is based on your home ZIP code and predominantly covers these counties: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin. If your ZIP code crosses over county lines and your ZIP is in the service area, the determination will be based on your ZIP code and not your county of residence. See the full list of in area ZIP codes.

The Incentive you earn in 2019 is payable in January of 2020.

The deadline for completing the 2019 Incentive is October 4 for Know Your Numbers and November 5 for the Health Survey, Health Coaching and Financial Health.

The amount of each incentive is based on your coverage level: $225 each for Teammate Only coverage, $200 each for Teammate + Spouse coverage, $450 each for Teammate + Child(ren) coverage, and $400 each for Teammate + Family coverage. What you earn will be contributed to your HSA or Incentive Account.

The smoker/tobacco user health plan premium surcharge encourages you to make healthy decisions regarding tobacco use. During the enrollment process, you will need to certify that neither you nor your covered dependents smoke or use tobacco products, or you are currently enrolled in a tobacco cessation program, if you wish to avoid the premium surcharge.

You will be subject to a spousal surcharge if BOTH of the conditions listed below are met:

If only one condition is met the surcharge does NOT apply. The surcharge is equal to $100 per month if you enroll in the CoPay Plan or Wake Health Savings Plan (in area or out of area).
